1) Domain Name: I wish I bought an expired domain name. It takes a certain amount of time for new domains to be ranked in Google. When someone searches for My Daily Maids, websites of other maid services pop up. This is very frustrating.
2) Marketing First: Next time I launch a local service, I will make sure to put up a landing page and see if people sign up. Ones I have the sign up process locked-down, I will work on the rest. The key is to see how easy it is to convert traffic.
3) Visitor Behavior: HotJar (www.hotjar.com) has been amazing. It shows how my visitors behave. I can see what they read and what links they click via a video recording. Best thing about HotJar, I found a critical bug that costed me a customer. It turns out <input type=”date”… does not work in Firefox. One customer was signing up but couldn’t get the date to populate because the calendar did not pop open on Firefox. He quickly abandoned the sign up process :(
4) Testing: Test with all browsers, especially mobile. All the web software I wrote in the past targeted Chrome. Turns out that lots of people use Firefox and Safari. Next time I’ll make sure my website renders well with all browsers, especially mobile. Most of the people actually use mobile.
5) Focus On Customers: It’s easier to find workers but much harder to find customers. I placed few adds on craigslist and got a bunch of job applications. I wish I could say the same thing about people signing up for the service. Also, all the cleaners who applied for my job posting did via cell phone. Luckily, my jobs page is mobile friendly.
