A website I manage for a friend went down recently, the cause was DNS issues. They have an AWS account, but they never log in (and frankly don't know how to use it). I investigated Route53, and found that the hosted zone (and as a result, all DNS records) was deleted.
AWS statuses mention Route53 issues on the 20th[0], but no mention of data loss. Couldn't find any results on twitter either. I can't be the only person affected though. Anyone else have a similar issue? I'm trying to narrow down the causes.
