No verified accounts used, only regular ones. It would seem the scammers have access to thousands of these accounts, and twitter is unable to do anything to stop these scammers from breaking into the accounts day after day. Imagine having access to hundreds or even thousands of twitter accounts everyday and using them for anything at will, whether for spam or propaganda.
I think the situation is pretty bleak. Twitter can try to stop verified accounts from being exploited, but regular ones is far harder because there are so many of them. Facebook does not seem to have this problem, or maybe it does and I am not aware of it.
Unlike php, scammers never sleep.

These people are making so much $ it's insane. Even drug rings cannot make this much.
Endless spigot of victims and $. You would think 3 years later and thousands of victims, millions $, and tons of media, articles, and other coverage that the well would run dry, but nope. I think the main issue is that the scam is so damn profitable, which explains its persistence. If this were any other niche, instead of making 400k/day it would be maybe $40-400. Diet, fitness, anything else is total crud compared to stealing crypto.
