Dean Wampler, Jason Rutherglen, and myself wrote the newly published 'Programming Hive'. The book is 352 pages! There are many reasons for this, but one was that I wanted to dig deep into hive and unearth many undocumented features. Other reasons are case studies from m6d (media6 degrees), photobucket, and Nasa.(Ow yes. I am name dropping). Other reasons are we tried to cover EVERYTHING from writing User Defined Functions, hive streaming, compression, SerDes, thrift support, as well as more complete version of the language manual with sample data and query output!
