I’m currently working on https://www.dreamly.in - automated, personalized, and localized bedtime stories for kids.

My daughter loves stories, and I often struggled to come up with new ones every night. I remember enjoying local folk tales and Indian mythological stories from my childhood, and I wanted her to experience that too — while also learning new things like basic science concepts and morals through stories.

So I built Dreamly and opened it up to friends and families. Parents can set up their child’s profile once - name, age, favorite shows or characters, and preferred themes (e.g. morals, history, mythology, or school concepts). After that, personalized stories are automatically delivered to their inbox every night. No more scrambling to think of stories on the spot!

I like reading to my kids and try to read to them in English and Mandarin. My Chinese is conversational, but I have a hard time finding books for them because I’m not good at writing. Something like this with language learning tools would be awesome.

I also like making up stories when we go on hikes. Long, rambling stories about unicorns befriending spiders and flying to faraway lands.

I found that [LangChain](https://www.langchain.com/langchain) has pretty good abstractions and better support for multiple LLMs. They also have a good ecosystem of supporting products - LangGraph and LangSmith. Currently supported languages are Python and Javascript.

My problem with LangChain (aside from dubious API choices, some a legacy of when it first started) is that now it's a marketing tool for LangGraph Platform and LangSmith.

Their docs (incl. getting started tutorials) are content marketing for the platform services, needlessly pushing new users into more complex and possibly unnecessary direction in the name of user acquisition.

(I have the same beef with NextJs/Vercel and MongoDB).

Some time ago I built a rather thin wrapper for LLMs (multi provider incl local, templates, tools, rag, etc...) for myself. Sensible API, small so it's easy to maintain, and as a bonus, no platform marketing shoved in my face.

I keep an eye on what the LangChain ecosystem's doing, and so far the benefits ain't really there (for me, YMMV).

I agree that the LangChain docs and examples shouldn’t rely on their platform commercial products. Then the LangGraph and LangSmith documentation should layer in top of the LangChain docs.

Langchain is nice but it's psychotic in TypeScript. Everything is "any" wrapped in layers of complex parameterized types.

Some trolls also do this for political reasons. https://antifa.com used to redirect to Biden’s website, as if he owned Antifa, but this is a troll. https://vamostovictory.com redirects to a website of Trump flailing his arms. Many others redirect to both sides of the aisle as political jokes.
