The end result is the probe isn't moving any "faster" leaving the slingshot object than it arrived from that object's point of view, but it may well be faster from the origin reference frame.
The thing is to remember that the bodies you're launching from, and then slingshotting against, are moving very fast relative to each other already. It's like throwing a bouncy-ball against a moving car - when it bounces off it may be moving faster relative to you than when you threw it, but it's actually a lower velocity relative to the moving car's reference frame.

It showed limits for sure. But the limits were bluster without the will to follow through (and accept the consequences).
It’s a political and diplomatic catastrophe for an empire in decline. But if control of the strait had been an actual priority, it would have been very achievable. That was never the goal though. The goal was to look stupid on TV, for some reason.
Going all out on Iran would free up the straight, but also be political suicide for the right.
As an extreme example, if Elon got fired from Tesla, I am sure he would be ok. He manages his money well and I am sure he does not think his job at Tesla is some king of God-given lifetime human right. If you are making $250k, a company is not expecting to be your baby sitter. You are a grown man or woman.
An employee needs to manage their economic life without depending on some company to make financial decisions for them. Getting laid off is simply part of life.
If you don’t want to be laid off, you can always start your own company and hire all these people, with your own money of course.
Just because companies are holding layoffs does not mean software engineers are not still making bank.
People on the fair ends of political spectrums tend to change their plumage to show their affiliation.
If nothing else, billionaires flight is a positive thing.
I am hoping all the billionaires leave my Washington state as a result of the millionaire tax - it may become a normal state like Oregon.
The average Starbucks corporate worker is squarely middle class. Their job is leaving as a result of this rhetoric.
And just to let you know- Starbucks is not that popular in Seattle. They have been closing stores right and left in Seattle to the point where I only know store that is open. Seattle is not missing them that much.
[edit some typos]
Maybe it would be fine for them to leave, but I’m pretty sure you want their companies to stay.
Maybe not. 50% of the tech companies moving out of Silicon Valley would probably improve traffic, lower housing costs etc. I’m pretty sure the cities that host them enjoy the tax revenue they bring in.
In Seattle at least some of the tech work is receding already because of layoffs. Which started to lower housing costs: landlords are starting to give 4 or 6 weeks of free rent.
More of this please.
1. stocks and commercial real estate are allowed to appreciate without taxation (unlike personal residences outside Cali),
2. multinationals wrote for themselves obscure tax rules so they end up paying almost no tax,
3. interest expense for companies and ultra high net worth individuals is subtracted from taxable income (for personal mortgages the interest expense deduction is capped)
4. Rich people organize their assets so estate taxes do not tax their estates when they die and thus their wealth goes to their children.
As you can see wealth is barely taxed.
